All taxi drivers are responsible for safeguarding their passengers, especially children and adults at risk. They are also well-positioned to recognise concerns linked to members of the public and to notice signs of criminal activity in the area where they work. It is essential that all taxi drivers know the signs of abuse and exploitation and can detect these and report any concerns appropriately.

This course will teach you how to fulfil your responsibilities by explaining what safeguarding means and outlining who a passenger at risk is. It explains the common types of abuse and exploitation which people may experience, how to recognise when this may be happening and how to report your concerns accurately. It also outlines the variety of ways that concerns may come to your attention.

Course in action

Why take this course?

It is challenging to put an exact number on the amount of people suffering abuse and exploitation in the UK. This is because many cases go unnoticed and unreported. As a taxi driver, you have a duty of care to all passengers, and as someone who works with members of the public and within the local community, you are in a key position to spot signs that someone may be in need of help.

This course will teach you how to fulfil your safeguarding duties and understand the guidance and legislation associated with your role. It outlines good safeguarding practices and how to remain professional. The correct course of action to take if a concern comes to your attention is also covered.

Module 2: Recognising Types of Abuse

This module will cover different types of abuse and exploitation and outline the signs and indicators that can help you to recognise when it may be taking place. It will also highlight the impact of abuse and exploitation and the consequences for victims.

Module 3: Responding to Safeguarding Concerns

This module will cover the various ways safeguarding concerns may come to your attention and detail when, how and to whom you should report them. This module also provides key information on good safeguarding practices and where to turn for further sources of support and advice.

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 15 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.

This course is suitable for anybody who drives a taxi or other licensed private hire vehicle. It is also suitable for non-driving employees within a taxi organisation, such as those in admin roles and suits both small and larger companies.
