This Driver Awareness course teaches you about the dangers associated with driving, helping you become better at anticipating and negotiating driving risks and distractions to make the road safer for you and other road users.
By the end of this course you’ll know how to plan a safe journey, perform vehicle safety checks and personal safety checks. You’ll also understand the risk you pose to other road users as a driver and know how the recent changes to the Highway Code affect how you should drive to reduce this risk. The course also covers the four types of driving distraction and how to manage them for a safer drive.

Things to consider before driving including your competence as a driver, your confidence and your vehicle, different types of road, the Hierarchy of Road Users and your responsibilities to other road users, weather conditions and driving for work policies.
General driver safety, POWDERS and IPSGA, MOTS and insurance, safe loading and towing, emergencies and incidents, breakdowns and emergency kits.
Risks on different road types, risks from other road users, ways of managing risks including driver attitude, the Dutch Reach, reaction times, speed awareness, severe weather and COAST and driving distractions including auditory, cognitive, manual and visual.
The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 20 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass, don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.
This Driver Awareness course is designed for anyone who is qualified to drive a motor vehicle and would like a refresher on road safety and how to be a more perceptive and safe driver. The course is particularly useful for people who drive on the roads for work, especially those who drive frequently, for long periods at a time or using unfamiliar routes.
